Service with the Port of London Authority
The Port of London Authority (PLA) has jurisdiction
over the entire tidal Thames between Teddington and the
Outer Thames Estuary, a length of 95 miles. The PLA was
established in 1908, as a public trust for the purpose of
administering, preserving and improving the port of London
and for other purposes including the conservancy of the
Thames.
As a special commission by the PLA the Havengore
build commenced in 1954. She passed trails and entered service
in 1956 as a hydrographic survey vessel plotting changes
in the bed of the River Thames and Estuary. Havengore was
for decades the pride of the fleet and ceremonial, diplomatic
and social duties became increasingly significant.
Havengore became the longest serving and most
famous PLA vessel. |
